Once the sun starts shining and it gets warmer , many people wonder how that works with carrying a baby in a sling or baby carrier. What should you pay attention to while carrying? And what do you feed your baby in the summer?
We want to emphasize that you should always follow your instincts and assess the situation yourself, but perhaps the tips below can help you with that.
As soon as it gets warmer you automatically start dressing yourself less warmly. And actually the same goes for your baby. A sling or carrier is an extra layer for your baby, so you have to take that into account.
Keep a close eye on your baby: a sweaty neck, red face and crying, may indicate too warmly dressed. Often a romper is enough.
If necessary, have your baby wear a breezy thin hat and stay out of the direct sun as much as possible.
Taking the socks off saves a lot of heat. Make sure that the soles of your feet are well lubricated and stay in the shade as much as possible.
If you and your baby sweat a lot, you can put a hydrophilic cloth between you and your baby, which absorbs the moisture, that wears less warm and sticky.
Shift your afternoon walk to a morning or evening walk and avoid the sun in the hottest part of the day.
When it is warm, your baby needs more fluids than usual. Give your child an extra sip between feeds.
And finally: don't forget to apply sunscreen to your child (and yourself) before you go out to enjoy the fresh air!
