Advice on carrying

Carrying your baby: when to choose which carrying system?

No matter how prepared you are for parenthood, it is not until your baby is born that you realize how important your care and presence are to him or her. Safety, security and warmth are what your newborn baby needs. You can give your baby this by starting to carry him or her in a baby carrier or sling. This way, while walking the dog, working from home or running errands, you can always have your baby close to you. In a baby carrier, your baby will feel safe and therefore build self-confidence to discover more and more the world around them. In addition, you will immediately catch signals of your baby's changing emotions and be able to respond quickly. But what is the best carrier system for you and your child's needs? Kay Poelen, owner of ByKay Carriers, offers advice.

ByKay baby carriers can be divided into four categories, all 100% ergonomic and to be used from day one after your baby is born.

1. The sling

There are two variations of the sling, also known as a knotted cloth: the ByKay Stretchy Wrap (stretchy) or Woven Wrap (woven, non-stretchy). Both are cloths of over four to five feet that must be knotted to create a perfectly connected cocoon for your child. New parents are sometimes a little hesitant about tying a cloth, but it's a lot easier than it looks.

Want maximum comfort and a seamless fit to your body? Then choose the organic cotton Stretchy Wrap, which you can use on your tummy and hip. If you need a firmer cloth that can also be used on your back, the Woven Wrap, made of organic linen, cotton or soft hydrophilic, is a good choice.

2. The baby carrier

Baby carriers are simpler to use than slings: you don't have to tie them, just snap them on easily. Ideal for the busy parent who still wants to carry his/her child close by. The contoured back panel of a baby carrier can be adjusted to your child's size for a "perfect fit. The ByKay Click Carrier Classic has an extra strap for this; the Click Carrier Deluxe can be adjusted by means of compression straps. A baby carrier can be used not only on the belly, but also on the hip and back.

3. The Mei Tai

For those who cannot choose between a baby carrier or sling, the Mei Tai is the solution. This is a pre-shaped half buckle baby carrier, whose belly band you snap shut and then tie off yourself. The perfect combination of the comfort of a sling and the convenience of a baby carrier. Again, this carrier system can be used on the belly, hip and back.

4. The Ringsling

For ultimate convenience, choose the ring sling: minimal handling for quick results. At the end of this baby carrier are two rings. By putting the other end through these rings, you create an easily adjustable baby carrier that you can hang over one shoulder. Easy for on-the-go as well as for a toddler who occasionally likes to stand on his own two feet.
