The preconceptions about slings

Informational

Although the use of slings and baby carriers is of all times, it is still relatively uncharted territory for some people. This is often accompanied by the necessary prejudices. We are curious to know if you have heard any of these preconceptions! And of course, we'll debunk these 6 preconceptions about baby carriers right away 😉

#1 Slings are floaty and for woolly-headed types

Slings are for everyone! It's a shame that sometimes they still have a "woolly sock" image around them. There is no need for it! A baby carrier gives your child warmth and security while leaving your hands free. Moreover, there are so many carriers on the market that there is something for everyone. Not into rainbow slings or other colorful ones? No problem, choose one that suits your style. There are also brands with a cool denim collection for an urban look. Of course, these baby carriers are not only beautiful, but also 100% ergonomic for your baby and suitable for every stature.

#2 It is difficult to tie a sling

At first you may be at a loss as to how to tie this long piece of fabric. But it's really not as hard as it looks. To make it as easy as possible, there are many instructional videos on youtube that show you step-by-step how to tie or change your baby carrier. Also, there is usually a handy instruction booklet with your baby carrier with tips and explanations. It's a matter of doing a lot! You get more and more comfortable with it. Don't be discouraged; once you get the hang of it, you can change your sling in no time. If you're not into tying, you can always go for a click system.

#3 It is hard to carry your baby in a baby carrier

A common question: isn't it incredibly heavy, carrying your baby? Many people compare it to the feeling you get when you lift a child on your arm. You don't keep this up for very long. With a baby sling, it's different. Baby carriers are designed to distribute the child's weight over your entire upper body, so it doesn't feel like weight is hanging off you but is more like an extension of your own body. Your child sits nice and close to you and automatically makes you stand up straight, this is also good for your own posture. In the beginning you may have to get used to carrying your child, but as your child grows older, your back muscles will also train in this. In fact, carrying strengthens your back muscles!

#4 It is dangerous to carry your baby in a baby carrier

A lot of baby carrier brands are ergonomically sound for both baby and carrier. You can often tell by the certifications a baby carrier has received. The support of your child's knee hollows should be easily adjustable in any system for a perfect fit at any age. This support is very important for the proper development of your baby's hips, they also call it the ergonomic M posture. The ASTM certification is issued in the US and when your baby carrier carries this certification, you know it meets the very strictest requirements. In Europe there is also a certification for baby carriers, it is called EN13209. Also for this certification, the baby carriers are tested in many areas, including whether the material has OEKOtex class 1. The OEKOtex certificate says something about the origin of the materials and whether they meet the strict requirements for babies (class 1). The Hip Dysplasia Institute does not issue a certification, but an endorsement or approval. The professionals at this institute review which baby carrier gives a healthy hip position and can prevent hip dysplasia.

#5 It is typically something for women

Whew, don't say this too loud. We think men with slings or baby carriers are actually cool! With a sling, your husband or boyfriend can enjoy hiking in the woods (with dog! :)) or strolling along the beach. Hands free, out and about without hindrance. And tell me, is a man behind a stroller that much cooler? No! "Heroes don't wear capes, they wear kids".

#6 You spoil your baby too much when you wear it

If you carry your baby you spoil it too much, your child will never learn to play and sleep independently, always remain dependent on you. Have you ever heard that? Don't worry about it! A sling offers your child warmth, love, safety, security and comfort. This is what a baby needs. Suddenly he or she is there in that big, unfamiliar world, being close to mom or dad is then all your baby wants. This creates a good bond between you and your baby and a sense of security for your baby. A baby cannot get too much of this. Moreover, babies often sleep very well when carried. Carry your child with confidence, eventually they will all become independent, enterprising individuals. But until then, stay warm and safe with mom or dad!
