Sling or baby carrier? Which one will you choose?

Informational

Okay, you're getting close or have (just) gotten older. Congratulations! You've already heard it from several people around you and are convinced: I want to start carrying my baby! But how? Sling or baby carrier? Help. Don't worry, we have everything listed for you. No more endless Google sessions (because honestly, that time is better spent on a hot shower or your favorite Netflix series).

Why carry?

Your baby needs three things in the first few weeks: you, your warmth and milk (okay and clean diapers, but we won't talk about that right now). Carrying gives your baby that much-desired security. You are the safe haven. AND it stimulates bonding, skin-to-skin contact and production of the cuddle hormone oxytocin (that's that fine chemical that makes you melt when your baby looks at you 🥹 ). Oh and bonus: you have your hands free! So you can drink your coffee, do your laundry or pluck your other child off the couch in the meantime.

The sling: cozy & flexible

Simply put, a sling is a long piece of fabric (and yes, that sounds less sexy than it is). You tie the fabric around you, creating a cocoon where your mini is snug and comfortable.

The two types of slings:

♥ Stretchy Wrap (stretchy) - Mega comfortable and soft. Perfect for those first few weeks when your baby wants to sleep, drink and sleep some more mostly. Tie it once and you can easily get your baby in and out. Perfect for belly and hip carry.

♥ Woven Wrap (woven, non-stretch) - This one is a bit sturdier and suitable for when your baby gets heavier. Plus point: it also allows you to carry your baby safely on your back. Made of beautiful materials such as hydrophilic cotton.

Yes, that tying seems exciting. But hey, you also learned how to change a diaper without your baby pooping himself (or you 😉 ) under. After a few practices, you'll be a pro. Many parents even find tying a nice moment of peace and focus. And a sling forms around you and your baby like a second skin. Maximum cozy vibes guaranteed!

The baby carrier: fast & practical

Are you more of Click & Go? Then a baby carrier is your best friend. No fussing with long fabric; you snap the buckles on and hoppa, you're ready to go.

Benefits of a baby carrier:

♥ Easy to put on and take off (even with your eyes half closed due to lack of sleep)
♥ Adjustable for you and your baby: grows with your mini
♥ Suitable for belly, hip and back carry
♥ Ideal on the go or if you want to quickly switch between carrying and, for example, the stroller

ByKay has the Tiny Click in which you carry your baby from day 1 to about 1 year. This carrier is also suitable if your baby is born premature. The Click Classic, in this carrier you carry your baby until about 2 years and is perfect because of its ease and simplicity. The Click Deluxe, which offers luxurious extras and is suitable for carrying your baby in up to about 3 years. All 100% ergonomic, so good for your and your baby's back.

Tip: A baby carrier is great if your partner or grandpa/grandma also wants to carry. Just adjust and done. No hassle remembering knotting techniques.

Sling or baby carrier: which suits you?

Choose a sling like:

♥ You like the fabric to mold completely around you and your baby
♥ You want extra security especially in the first weeks (new born phase)
♥ You love that cozy feeling
♥ You don't mind tying (or just want to try)

Choose a baby carrier like:

♥ You want to be able to carry quickly and easily, without knots
♥ You are often on the go or like practicality
♥ Multiple people want to carry your baby
♥ Click & Go

And most importantly...

There is no right or wrong. Sometimes you choose a sling because you love that intimate tying, other times you reach for the baby carrier because you're late for your appointment (again). Some parents have both in the house and just switch per situation. You know your baby and yourself best. Want to try a baby carrier first before you buy it? Then try the ByKay subscription and rent for one month, for example.

So, jettison that stress about the perfect carrier. Baby on your belly, cuddle, enjoy. The rest will come naturally.

You got this, mom/dad!
