The MyKay Newborn

The MyKay Newborn: the convenience of a carrier, the comfort of a cloth. 

Sometimes you have those encounters where you just know something beautiful will follow. Miluška from Liefdevol Dragen and Kay from ByKay together developed the MyKay, the carrier for newborns.

Introducing as many people as possible to the phenomenon of carrying is one of Miluška Flooren's greatest motivations. With her company Liefdevol Dragen she guides parents, healthcare professionals, babywearing consultants and companies. "I introduce them to the possibilities of carrying, they decide for themselves if it's something for them.

" Wearing was not immediately obvious to Miluška after the birth of her eldest. "Actually, I didn't like it at all. I was one of those expectant mothers who had every possible thing from the 'birth lists' in the house. I thought I was well prepared but nothing was further from the truth: my son just cried. When I heard that a sling might help I started to try it carefully and with success: it was the only place where he did not have pain in his neck and thus did not cry. I started researching babywearing. Because when I do something, I want to know all about it. I learned that babywearing has been done for centuries and in different cultures. And also what it can mean for children and parents. I wanted to share that with many more (expectant) parents and care professionals. So my company Liefdevol Dragen was born and I guide parents, babywearing consultants and care professionals in getting acquainted with carrying and using different carrying systems and techniques. I also work with companies like ByKay, to be able to contribute to the development of even more beautiful babywearing (related) products."

Same vision
"My first baby carrier was a ByKay Stretchy Wrap. At a trade show I spoke to Kay and we found out that we largely share the same vision when it comes to babywearing. A great collaboration developed where I assist with photo shoots, provide carrier consultations and think along in terms of innovation. The funny thing is that we have had the same idea in our heads several times and worked on it together. Just like the MyKay Newborn.

I told Kay that for explaining carrying to "new" parents I was looking for a carrier that can be used by parents from birth. Very approachable, easy to do and easy to demonstrate by a maternity nurse. A carrier for everyone to just experience carrying. Kay started laughing hard, ran to the attic and came back with a sample of exactly what I had in my head. Made once before and ended up in the attic. We continued to develop the carrier and now the MyKay Newborn has been added to the ByKay range!

Optimal support
The MyKay Newborn is a carrier for newborns and can be used up to approximately (pants) size 74. The baby carrier is made of hydrophilic fabric, so wonderfully soft and easy to wash at a high temperature. Because the carrier is tied off under the armpits, it offers optimal neck support. Meanwhile, this carrier is already being used in several hospitals (including Belgium and Arizona) by nursing staff to introduce parents to exactly what carrying is, how it feels and what it can do for parents and babies. The great thing is that the MyKay Newborn is accessible to everyone: you don't have to do much tying and it is wonderfully soft and comfortable; the convenience of a carrier but the comfort of a cloth. I think that with the MyKay Newborn we are lowering the barrier to give carrying a try. If you can get acquainted with carrying your child in a good way, with the right carrier, only then can you decide if carrying is for you. My ideal is that every parent experiences at least once what it is like to carry. Who knows, maybe in a while the MyKay Newborn will be on the birth list, wouldn't that be great?
